OVERVIEW
Demography –
The study of human population can be an exciting learning experience for geography students.
For the past 200 years, the world population
has grown dynamically, emerging different trends and issues. We need to realize there is a delicate balance between resource
and people and an underlying relationship between resources and population growth. We will examine
these observations in the coming weeks.
In
the next three lessons, you will learn, understand and apply demographic concepts from the previous sessions
to the case studies highlighted in your textbook. You and your team mates will study how the national family planning programme
in Singapore has evolved over the years and how China counteract her rapid population growth
with the ‘One Child Policy’.
I welcome you on board to join me and find out more about population change and
effects in the coming years for these two countries. We will be doing a series of discussion and group activities
both in class and online. You can refer to the learning site for the latest updates.
Have fun!
Best regards,
Mr. Yew
